Project objective:
Create a future UX/UI concept for Elka´s Memoriaali service. Improving service quality and customer experience of recording work life experiences for archiving purposes.
Project challenges:
Ideation of a possible future service with very little guidelines
Usability of service
Possibilities and restrictions of AI technology
Team:
Lari Holappa, Anniina Poutiainen and Katariina Valentin. Team work for background research, interviews and early ideation stage
My role:
Telma-concept, visuals / illustration and prototype animation for pitching
ELKA Memoriaali - project:
A project focused on improving the first stage of archiving: receiving, storing, tagging and sorting of memories. Read more: https://elka.fi/palvelut/memoriaali-hanke/
Telma, AI interviewer and archiving assistant
“Record your memories with Telma!”
A friendly AI interviewer and archiving assistant guiding you through your memoirs. Animation and communication emulate empathic interaction. With AI taking care of information tagging and ensuring consistency with quality of recordings and contens.
Research and project phases:
Testing and understanding Memoriaali-prototype
Benchmarking
Concept ideation, client feedback and concept iteration
Interviews with a sociologist and AI expert
-
Voice control with voice to text for checking and transcripts
Text input
Sign Language recognition
-
Voice + running subtitles
Face and movement detection (Sign Language and emotionally correct responses)
Animated character with expressions to mimic empathy
Telma can search for supporting media to show during the interview
-
Ensuring quality recordings and tagging correctly
Structured interviews that feel like a real encounter
AI learns and updates interview questions continuously providing versatility and options
Easy and visually clear navigation and user experience with the aid of AI
Empathy and human-centric design:
Recording one’s memories is a very private and sometimes emotional situation
Recordings might be done by elderly people who are confused with a complex interface
Feeling of “being heard” is important. Movement, sound and micro expression detection allow for correct feedback and comments from AI.
Humanoids often feel scary. Cuteness of a simple non-human character creates a safe and warm feeling.
Soft ASMR-sounds, a pleasant voice and round shapes create comfort.
AI’s future possibilities
As of now, AI technology is developing rapidly. Most of Telma’s planned features are already possible but expensive or processing times too slow.
With the given time scope of 5-10 years drastic developments are possible and execution of Telma as a service is possible.
If Telma is well received, making usage of its’ features for other purposes is possible and provides more revenue.
